Liberia is a Party to all the major maritime safety and environmental protection Conventions and Treaties and is a founding and active member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Liberia is also a Party to many International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions and the first State to accede to the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006. Liberia has set the standard with regard to IMO and ILO participation and early ratification of the major Safety, Security, Seafarer and Environmental Protection Treaties.
Liberia is a member of the IMO Council, the executive organ of IMO. Liberian maritime diplomats provide permanent representatives at the IMO through its Permanent Mission to IMO in London. Liberian diplomats and professional advisors from the Registry’s offices in the U.S. and London participate to provide fulltime voice to the issues affecting maritime safety, security and environmental protection on the IMO agenda at the assembly, council and numerous committee and sub-committee meetings.
We welcome Liberian shipowners and industry participation; therefore, if you have an interest in a particular issue or wish to send an advisor to attend a scheduled meeting as part of the Liberian delegation, please contact:
