On May 19th, the crew from Yang Ming’s containership, YM EXCELLENCE, performed a textbook rescue when they saw smoke and flames billowing from a burning yacht. The two Australian nationals who fled the yacht were brought on board and given food, water, blankets and a room to stay.
All seafarers train for these types of emergencies, but most are never involved in an actual sea rescue. Captain Lee Chien-Sheng and his crew acted swiftly and professionally to ensure a happy and safe ending to the incident.
The Liberian Registry presented the captain and his crew with a Plaque of Appreciation to congratulate them on a job well done.
