IMO Council Representation
In 1959, Liberia became a charter member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to help create a regulatory framework for the shipping industry that is fair and effective, universally adopted, and universally implemented. This close relationship continues today with the Liberian Registry holding a top tier, Category A seat on the IMO Council.
International Representation
Liberian maritime diplomats provide permanent representatives at the IMO through its Permanent Mission to IMO in London. Liberian diplomats and professional advisors from the Registry’s offices in the U.S. and London participate to provide a full-time voice to the issues affecting maritime safety, security, and environmental protection on the IMO agenda at the assembly, council, and numerous committee and sub-committee meetings.
